In 2025, feminist organizations and movements across Latin America and the Caribbean continued protecting human rights defenders, caring for their communities, defending their territories, and building collective responses to criminalization, gender-based violence, extractivism, and climate emergencies. They did so as persecution increased, democratic spaces narrowed, and organized movements faced growing barriers to their work.
At FAU LAC, we stood alongside these responses with 486 grants across 22 countries, channeling more than USD 4.2 million directly to organizations and movements. Of these grants, 298 supported protection, holistic security, and collective care, while 81 made emergency relocations possible to protect the lives of human rights defenders facing imminent threats. We also expanded our support in the Caribbean and provided our first grants in the English-speaking Caribbean.
Our 2025 Annual Report brings together what these experiences have taught us: responding to an emergency begins before a crisis unfolds, through the networks of trust, collective care, and organizing that movements build every day. Its pages also tell stories from Argentina, Brazil, and Puerto Rico, showing how communities turn resources into protection, autonomy, care, and continuity for the work they are already leading.
